Extra Curricular
Energy Breakthrough at White Hills Primary School
White Hills Primary School is proud to participate in the Energy Breakthrough program, an exciting Victorian education initiative that combines learning, teamwork, innovation and sustainability.
The Energy Breakthrough program challenges students to race a human-powered vehicle (trike), while learning about renewable energy, engineering, health, fitness and environmental responsibility. It is far more than a race — it is a rich, hands-on learning experience that develops lifelong skills.
What Students Learn
Through their involvement in Energy Breakthrough, students develop:
- STEM skills – design thinking, problem solving, engineering concepts and sustainability
- Teamwork and collaboration – working together towards a shared goal
- Resilience and perseverance – setting training goals, overcoming challenges and striving for personal best
- Leadership and responsibility – taking ownership of roles within a team
- Health and fitness awareness – training safely and understanding the importance of physical wellbeing
Students are involved in much more than riding. They participate in:
- Vehicle design and maintenance
- Safety training and practice sessions
- Team organisation and strategy
- Promotion and sponsorship opportunities
- Display and presentation components
Our School’s Approach
At White Hills Primary School, Energy Breakthrough is about inclusion, effort and growth. We focus on:
- Creating a positive team culture
- Encouraging students to try new things
- Supporting each other through challenges
- Celebrating improvement and teamwork
The program culminates in the annual Maryborough Energy Breakthrough event, where schools from across Victoria come together to showcase their hard work in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Energy Breakthrough is made possible through the dedication of staff, students and families. We value the support of our parent community, whether it be assisting with training, vehicle preparation, fundraising or cheering on our team.
Together, we are building confident, capable learners who understand that real breakthroughs come from persistence, collaboration and belief in themselves.
